There are changes to the national minimum wage (NMW) rates in some categories from 1 October 2012. The new rates per hour are as follows :

| £6.08 | Workers aged 21 and over | £6.19 |
| £4.98 | Workers aged 18 to 20 | £4.98 |
| £3.68 | Workers aged 16 to 17 | £3.68 |
| £2.60 | Apprentice under 19 | £2.65 |
| £2.60 | Apprentice 19 and over but only in the first year | £2.65 |
